Know What A Healthy Tongue Looks Like Upon Inspection

When you look at the inside of your mouth in the mirror, do you ever inspect your tongue? You certainly notice your teeth and gums, but it’s also important to take a good look at your tongue and to know if it’s in good shape. Your tongue can also tell you quite a bit about your health in general. When is the last time you stuck your tongue out at yourself in the mirror and took a good look?

Do you even know what a healthy tongue is supposed to look like? You would likely notice certain symptoms and recognize them as unhealthy symptoms even if you don’t know what they are yet. However, there is much to learn about the tongue. Did you know that you can look at your tongue in three parts that make up the whole instead of just one?

That’s right, and you can learn quite a bit of information about those three sections. There are all kinds of things to look out for. A healthy tongue should be pink and not dark red in color. Your tongue should also not be white, blue, purple or yellow. Of course, you have to look at each section of the tongue individually. An unhealthy tongue can also have sores that you will not see unless you stick your tongue out to take a good look or shine a flashlight into your mouth.

There can be certain temporary conditions that cause issues with your tongue of course, so you don’t want to jump to any conclusions right away. If you have any concerns about the appearance of your tongue, notate them and make an appointment with your doctor. And from now on, make sure you pay attention to your tongue’s appearance, as it can tell you quite a bit.
